Brief stop in Delhi...

On our way up north, to the foothills of the Himalayas, we stopped in Delhi and were thrilled to hang out with the Vogels again! We joined them for a tour of the Sikh temple and then went off on our own to explore the Mughal buildings within the walls of the Red Fort.

Pushkar

After Bundi we headed to the holy Hindu & Muslin pilgrimage town of Pushkar. It is a small town surrounding a lake in the middle of the desert. The pilgrims bathe in the water as a way to wash away their sins. We were surprised to find that the majority of the tourists were Israeli. Hebrew could be found on many storefronts and we ate delicious falafel and hummus on a daily basis!

Pushkar was the perfect relaxing end to our 10 days in Rajasthan. Off to Delhi for a brief stop before heading north to Rishikesh...

Beautiful Blue Bundi

We were told that Bundi was a quiet, sleepy town but didn't know what that meant in India. Turns out that after dark, the town completely shuts down and there isn't a person to be found in the street. This was a little unsettling to us when we arrived to the train station at midnight and were taken by rickshaw to our guesthouse. It felt completely alien, driving down streets that had no rickshaws, cars, motorcycles, people, cows, dogs or goats! We had no idea where we were until we woke up the next morning, walked up to the roof of our guest house and saw this...

Bundi is a blue painted city that sits below an enormous, abandoned and delapitated fort palace. The lack of tourists is replaced by an abundance of monkeys! We had a once in a lifetime experience of exploring the palace without anyone else in sight (except for our Dutch friend we picked up along the way). It was truly extraordinary, as if we we were on an expedition discovering a long lost city.

This was the absolute highlight of India for Greg.
